Case Study: The Stimming Pool

Client: Dartmouth Films

Project: theatrical key art design

The Stimming Pool is a groundbreaking hybrid documentary, co-directed by the Neurocultures Collective and Steven Eastwood. Prior to its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, I was commissioned by its distributor, Dartmouth Films, to produce a poster design for use during its UK theatrical release in Spring 2025.

Following consultations with the directors and the distributor, I produced a number of different visual styles for the poster, using stills and imagery from the film sequence. The poster needed to incorporate a powerful image, and have adequate space for current and future festival laurels and critics’ quotes.

We landed on a concept that used a still from the film’s powerful final sequence, set within a swimming pool. One of the protagonists, stimming in the middle of the pool, is set against a series of red lines and dots that simulate the eye tracking software used elsewhere in the film.

I also helped to determine the tagline for the film, which is now being used across its digital marketing. The final poster will be used for cinema screenings across the UK in 2025, as well as for web and social media promotion.
